Mushy, January 22, 1981, page E“””“[TheSOUth The American people, in their inindtable fashion, have stolen the linelight. Within a few hours they captured universal news in a way not often accarp— lished . Toesday, the Americans held hostage in Iran for fourteen months were finally released; Ronald REagan was officially sworn in as the fortieth 'President of the United States of America{ and Muhanned Ali talked an individual out of crnnfitting suicide. One begins to wonder what life the hostages, or "returnees" as they now are being called, will be forced to lead. Privacy, one suspects, will be al- most non-existent. These people will be hounded by the likes of the National Enquireer, and any myriad of talk shows. Even while in Hospital in Germany photographers are training their telephoto lens' on the windows of the rtxne where the re— turnees are being kept. These lens are searching for any facial expression suitable for worldwide publication, sensationally exploiting the case. Few families of the returnees have had any great degree of privacy in the past fourteen months. The media have been most eager to get the View of "those left behind".
