Anza zp Saturday Night — Arts Guild Show By Ryan O’Connor A&E EDITOR The Arts Guild played host to the latest of Charlottetown’s all ages shows. Kicking offat around 8:00 PM was Charlottetown’s own “Windom Earle,” a prima- rily instrumental group that took the crowd through much of their repetoire, including the extremely catchy “Degrassi Funk,” which features a sample of Mr. Raditch, and “Beef Chowmein,” which saw the duo get the crowd grooving to their rapping talents. The crowd hada good laugh upon hearing the Vanilla Ice sound clips played in between songs. The next two acts were of the hard-core persuasion. Unfortunately I missed the names of these groups. By delivering loud music, coupled with wailing, shrieking vocals, amosh- pit was formed that a photo courtesy of Stephan Macleod dozen brave souls man- aged to maintain for most of the night. Fourth up was “283" from Fredericton, New Brunswick. A punk trio, they managed to encoun- ter anumber of technical difficulties as they barked out their set. A nice change following two hard core-bands, they added a dose of enter- taining commentary in between songs. I missed the fifth band’s introduction as I ducked out to buy amuffin. Upon returning to the Guild I found yet another hard-core band perform- ing, with a young vocalist taking a break in between songs to tell some crude “Jokes.” He also re- vealed that he was in love with the Degrassi High character Spike (aren’t weall?). Several hours of local independent music, a couple of songs about Degrassi— all for five bucks. Not too shabby.
