It is upon this report that the Company are paid It is open tothe inspection of every citizen, who can check its accuracy in a moment, as every lamp is specially reported upon. ——— Tue Canadian Pacific Railway Company carried out of Ottawa last year 75,000,000 feet of lumber, and the Canada Atlantic Railway about a similar amount, making the amount carried out of Ottawa by rail last year about 150,000,000 feet, out of a total cut of somewhat over 350,000,000 feet. Two-thirds of this amount shipped by rail went to the United States. The C. P. R. have secured several large contracts for a lumber from Ottawa to points in the this season. The report states that the fire premium income for the year 1886 amounts to £1,289,594 sterling. The fire account, after providing for all losses and expenses, shows, without the addition of interest, a surplus of £205,130 sterling. The assets of this company, the largest fire insur- ance company in the world, on the 3lst Dec. 1886, amounted to £7;817,852 19s, lld. ster- ling, or upwards of $33,000,000. The par value of the company’s shares is £2 sterling, and we understand that they are now quoted in the London stock market at from £34 to £35 sterling each, or about seventeen hundred per cent. premium.
