' THE NEW RAILWAY WIIABF AT GEOBGEIUWN Extensive Reconstruction At Georgetown Railway Wharf Rapid progress is being made on the Georgetown Railwayi Wharf reionstruction project. underway since early in the summer by the Diamond Con- struction Co. Ltd.. of Frederic- ton, N.B. Removal last winter of the. frost proof warehouse. built in the late 1920's. set the stage for the new and largest reconstruction lob ever done in Georgetown and perhaps the largest wharf reconstruction Job to be done in the Province. when completed the wharf will be 920 feet in length and will have an average width of 175 feet. On the wharf will be erect ed a frost-proof potato ware- house. SN feet in length and 66 feet in width, with a 12 ft. highi side wall. OFFICES it will contain three separate offices. one for the wharfanger. one for the potato inspectors and an office for the ' .. There will be lsvatorles and stevedorts room. The boiler room will be fire resistant. The County Cos- struction Cn.. has the subcon- tract for placing the large sand and clay fill on the wharf all- Saint John, N.B.: and by Dia- mond Construction. which were treated at Newcastle. N.B. Twenty-nine railway car loads of this treated timber has al- ready arrived in Georgetown. with 3 to 5 carloads to come. Approximately 60 tons oi chan- nels. plate washers, bolts will be used in the construction and sup- plied by York Structural Steel of Fredericton. N.B. The timber. bolts are supplied by Saint John. iron Works of Saint John. N.B.. and are V. in to iii in. by is in. to 36in.ln length. FOUR CRANES Equipment on the lab includes four cranes: one of We yd. size. with a 100 ft. boom-two of Vs yd. size with 50 ft. booth and one of V: yd. size with a 40 ft. boom. The wood piling is driven from a floating pile driver. with swinging leads. 72 feet long. The steel piling are put in place with a crane. The driving ham- mers are operated by automatic double - acting steam or air. The Diamond Construction Co. have erected offices. cook-house. bunk house and scales at the head oi the wharf. on the south side oi Water Street.
