Ewen Law- son, for assaulting Isaac Gill on the 9th inst., was fined $1 or 4 days. John Bell (laborer), 4 with being drunk and disorderly on the [5'h, was remanded to jail until May 23, pending the apprehension of several other young men implicated in the same disturb ance, Patrick Gormley, for allowing « mal- icious dog to run at large, was fined 5 cents and coste, and was ordered to have the dog destroyed or removed from the city within 24 hours, — ed Disreessinc Accipent.—A most dis- tressing accident happened to Miss Esther Harvie, of Hantsport, N. 8., recently. Miss Harvie was knitting, and thoughtlessly began probing her ear with one of the needles. Just at that moment a young girl accidentally ran against Miss Harvie's elbow, driving the need!e deep into the in- terior of the ear. Intense agony and vom- iting succeeded the withdrawal of the needle, with no appearance of abatement for some days. No hope of her recovery is sutertained. > Tus Market.—The market to-day was| rather poorly attended, with prices little changed from last report. Inside—Eggs, in moderate supply, were selling at from 11 to 12 cents per dozen. Butter (fresh) in fair supply, was selling at 21 to 22 cents per Ib., and butter (tub) from 19 to 20 cents per lb. Fowl, rather scarce, were selling at from %@ to 55 cents per pair. Outside— Hay in good supply was selling at from 70 to 75 cents per cwt. Potatoes, wholesale, were in good supply and sold at from 38 to 40 cents bushels; potatoes, retail, were selling at om 45 to 50 cents per bushel Oats, in poor supply, were selling at from 34 to 35 cents Fish, fresh, in plentiful supply, sold at from 8 to 9 cents per dozen. Lobsters in fair supply, sold at 3, 4 and 5 cents each. ‘ Oprrcany.—We hear with regret of the death of Dr. D. ©. McKay, of Summerside, which eccurred at his residence in that town, about haif-past seven o’cleck this morning. He had been ailing for some time p»st, and about a week ago an operation was performed which, however, did not benefit him very much. Dr. McKay was 8 man who was well-known and deservedly esteemed and respected. His bereaved relatives have the eympathy of all. The death is announced to-day of Martha, wife of John Henry Gates, Eeq., and daughter ef the late Theophilus Chappell, Esq. The deceased lady was in delicate health for some time time past.
