continued from Page 5 Dear Editor: I must speak out against the madness of bilingualism and multiculturalism. One language UNITES and English has proven to be the best for this purpose. Multiculturalism DIVIDES peo- ple into ethnic groups, thus en- suring that their backgrounds, customs and thinking remain dif- ferent. There are many ethnic groups in Canada, all of which have their own country—of-origin lan- guage. To name a few — native Indians, English, French, Welsh, Scottish, Italian, Finnish, Pol- ish, Ukranian, Swedish, Hungar- ian, Pakistani, Estonian, Chi- nese, Japanese, Greek, Viet- namese (with apologises to those not named). We are all Cana- dian, whether we were born here or are naturalized citizens. I am an _ English-speaking Canadian. Some are Objiway and English-speaking Canadians, some are Polish and English— speaking Canadians, some are Finnish and _ English-speaking Canadians, some are Ukranian and English-speaking Canadians, and so on. Now, all of a sudden, 4% of the people in Canada who are French and English-speaking Canadians want to force every- one else in Canada by Govern- ment legislation to become flu- ent in French (in addition to the other one or two languages they have already had to learn) or else they will not be able to get or keep a job of even modest wages. I, for one, have seen no move towards giving all people in Canada a chance to vote on this matter in either a Federal of Provincial election. I, among millions of others, do not agree with having every province in Typing Canada bilingual, while Quebec. remains totally French~speaking and French-reading only and I, among millions of others, believe that ONE LANGUAGE UNITES and that that unifying language has been and should continue to be the English language. I pray to God that He will en- sure that English will continue to be the one official unifying lan- guage in Canada and, for that matter, the rest of the world. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
