It is only because of the exceptional advantages ithe Council has heretofore enjoyed that its prospects look a little dark now. It may _not accomplish so much without Lady Aber- deen as if did under her able guidance, but there is no reason for supposing that its usefulness, will be seriously impair- ed. Lady Aberdeen has imbued her followers with much of her own spirit, and many of them have exhibited such ability and devotion in their work that as body which had neverhad a Countess of Aberdeen would consider itself fort- unate in the possession of such leaders. Then there is the happy combination of high social position with more prac- ticsl qualifications in the new president, Lady Edgar; and the particularly fort- unate choico of Miss Wilson, the present secretary of the International Council, and formerly Lady Abordeen’s private secretary. All this, with the new central omce, the assurance of the se¢retary’s salary for three years, and the continued interest and -support of Lady Aberdeen herself, ought to be I suicient guarantee against fulllté- F O I PROVINCIAL S» S- CONVENTION 1 TRADE ANI] SHIPPING PORT Ol" C HARLOTTFTONVN.
