Rome, Aug. 13 that 350 auxiliary troops under the com mand of Italian officers had been destroyed by Abyssinians. ‘The killed include all the otficers. Anattack was being made by the auXiliaries upon Sagamitte. The catast rophe was due to treachery on the part of the the tighting. The followimg details have been received of the massacre at Sagametti. The \byssinian Chief, Debeb, assembled a force of 470 men with the intention of raiding Arkirko district. They sus- pense payment to-day with a reported lability of $150 00. Mr, Esson lived in one of the finest houses in the city, and had a large and expensive family. The Halifax | Banking Co have been carrying the firm for some time, but last week it is alleged that Esson broke faith with the bank, and the bank's refusal of further advances brought affairs to a crisis. Further advices regarding the yaloanja eruptions in Japan state that three small villages are covered with sand and ashes and their sites thrown into mountains. The | number of persons buried is unknown, but it is believed no one escaped alive. The following villages suffered most: At Nudo 45 residences were destroyed, and 12 per- sons killed; at Shibuya 17 residences de- stroyed and 26 persons killed; at Nagasaki tive residences destroyed and 98 persons killed, Blaine’s Reception, Bostoy, Aug. 13. Hon. James G. Blaine and family arriv- ed from New York at 6 p.m. Their route was one continuous ovation.
