The replyl was that fast sailing steamers to} carry from 15,000 to 18.000 barrels; would be necessary and in order to‘ meet the situation at both ends there. would need to be definite announce-g ments that a permanent regular; service was being established and would be maintained. f Judson Corey, o! Tobique, H. HA Hatfield, oi Hnrtland. and Wilmotf Anderson, presented the proposal‘ that the Government assist the po-f tam industry by an advertising cam- paign especially in Toronto and‘ Montreal. Compulsory Inspection The case for compulsory inspec- tion was presented by O. E. Galla- gher, oi Bath; C. E. Hideout, of‘ Hartland, and Coun. Greenlaw, of Millville. It was stated that the pre- sent cost of inspection was $4 per the cost for 10,000 cars-the annual expel-table production in New Brunswick-would probably be re- duced to $3 per car. There was a suggestion that only licensed ship- pers should be permitted ioexport agricultural products from New Brunswick and it was stated that the’ potato growers and farmers oi the province generally now realized that compulsory inspection was necessary. Hon. lewls Smith, Minister oi Ag- riculture, said that inspection at point oi shipment was in his 0pm‘- ion the basis oi solution o! the po- rato industry situation in New; Brunswick, but he urged that there’ should be a reduced acreage in this province in 1929 as elsewhere and that the farmers should be urged to rrive more attention to live stock‘ production.
