Eddie Money Sound of Money Columbia/CBS 15. Shakespear’s Sister Sacred Heart London/Polygram guitarist Gary Lalonde. Here’s some of that interview. CIMN: How did Ray Coburn (original Keyboardist) get back with the band for this tour? Gary: Well, after Rob decided he wanted to leave and do scme other things, we started lookiag for people available and Ray war our first choice being that he was playing with us on the first two albums and he was available for this tour so he decided to come out and have some fun with us. CIMN: Will he be playing on the next album or just this tour? Gary: Well, we play it day by day, and so far he’ll be lucky if he makes it to the next town if we don’t throw him out of the van (said jokingly). He’ll probably be working with us on the next al- bum. CIMN: Some bands use the soning behind this? Gary: As you mature as a band and writers, you want to find different things. You need people who are more experienced and you can afford better people sometimes. that’s the case with us. We got to a point where we could afford one of the best with Ted Templeman, and now after that, the only place for us to go was to try it ourselves and that’s what we did. The next one, we’re not sure what we’re going to do yet. We might find someone. It’s a weird business because if they’re not available at the time, they might want to do it, but they might be busy doing some- one else. Sometimes it’s hard 10 connect with who you want when you’re available and when they’re available. CIMN: what can someone ex- pect to see when they go to see Honeymoon Suite live? Gary: you’ll see a very ener- getic rock n’ roll show. If you see us in a club, you’ll see probably minimal production and more of the band moving around and in- teracting with ourselves and the audience. If it’s in a big place, you’re likely to see lasers and very large light show. You’re definitely going to have a good time. CIMN: What do you love the most about touring? Gary: Just generally playing for people. you have an instant reaction from people listening to your songs that you don’t get in the studio. Sometimes it’s really good when you’re working on new songs to play them in front of people and find out if they react to it without even knowing the song first. CIMN: Do you prefer playing in clubs or arenas? Gary: both have their merits. The clubs, you have a tendency to be closer and more intimate with people watching you whereas in the arenas you can put on a big- ger and wilder show. CIMN: You’ve released a sin- gles compilation looking back over your career. What have been some of the high points of your career? Gary: Winning the Juno was a big highlight, and getting our first gold album because in Canada, you never know what’s gonna happen. you can have suc- cess or grim failure and it can be your first and last album. Going to Japan and playing for the Japanese people was exciting. Having Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull play on one of our songs was another highlight. Lastly Gary had an amusing anecdote. Gary: We were driving along in the Southern states and most of us were sleeping. We were in the middle of an American tour. The next day we woke up and the bus was at a really weird an- gle, so we looked out the wir dow, and we were behind a tow truck parked in front of a garag¢: The bus driver was so good we didn’t even notice we had prob lems and had been picked up by a tow truck. He told us later 0” that he was driving along and th¢ front tire passed the truck. Th! was weird.
