The occasion was the monthly sports meeting of the club, and the girls were well nigh collapsed after a very spirited game of basketball. The meeting pro- gressed while the members ate their supper in their club room. and we suspect some of the plans made for last Saturday night's dance were influenced by the pre- sence of food. The object of the meeting. the second last before the Christmas exams was to plan for the Saturday dance) No sooner had the Beta Hi-Y left their meeting than the Deltas called theirs to order. Business dispensed with. the girls settled down to their study of 111-3! as outlined in the Hi-Y Manuel. An interesting diacuasi on dating etiquette was held. end the club plans to continue its discussion of teen-age problems at the next regular meeting. The boys of both Alpha end Ac- my chapters held meeting: this past week. At a. Friday evening meeting of the Alpha Chapter. the members discussed post-Christmas progvram with their adviser Ian Alhford. and decided that there would be no more meetings of their chapter until alter the holday seas- on. (Thoy tell us they are taking their exams quite seriously.) Acmy enthusiasm still rides high. and the new executive aims to keep it that way. At a meeting on Monday night. the Club discuss- ed program, set regutr meeting hours. and planned a special meet- ing of the executive and program committee. Following the business meeting. the members enjoyed a color film on sports. 0 O O The culmination of the week's Hi-Y activities was the sponsor- ing of last Saturday's "Sadie Hawkins Soshul." Dancing to the music of the C. C. Swingstrza, the crowd enjoyed many novelties in- clrilng the statue dance. on old- time set. and the "spud Island special." This special dance, in which the potato played an im- portant role. was won by Winston Smith, and Joyce Proctor. dance Was under the direction of the Beta Hi-Y Club. with Miss Dorothy (Stoker) Dewar acting as mistress of ceremonies. . C 0 0 Last. Thursday evening the Y's Men celebrated the 25th Annivers- ary of the founding of their club. It didn't take Mari. long to get the gang going with some surprisingly pleasing results. The panel discussion on Alcohol- ism proved to be very interesting. Members of the group were sur- prised with the scope of the prob- lem as well as with its nearnesa to home. Most were impressed with the program carried on by the Alcoholics Anonymous in treating this disease ( and we learned that it is a disease). Rev. Mercer of Mount Stewart, outlined the nat- ure of the disease. and aspects of treatment were discussed by Rev. J. Davison and a member of the Moncton AA. Mr. Jack Tralnor of the Department of Welfare stated that at least half the cases of his department are related to the problem of alcoholism.
