There were 103 cons gregations cortributing, but stilla larger snpual amount is needed. They received $4 414.10 thie year, against $9,915 96 last year. Whle the cost of the new $7,000 due; but a large amount of this is already subscribed, reducing the indebted- nees to about $3,5C). The report of the Directors of the La- dies’ College and Conservatory of Music showed that the attendance for the year was 455 as against S97 the previous year. There sre now 10 more residential studeais and 25 more gevernl students than this time last year. The receipts of che two institutions bad been $25,504.00, and ex~ pendiwures only $24,960.00, leaving a enug little balance to the credit of the institu~ tions. Dr. Campbell, Moderator of the General Assembly of Canada, explained the 20th Century Fond of $1,00,000, itis hoped to raise before the end of 1900. The first department is $400,000 tor the debt fund. This is for the help of struggling congre- gations burdened with debt on their church property. A man will be appoint- edto go out with a eubscription book aod do practical work in removing the debts and to encourage those who can pay of their own debts, but are not doing so. It would be proposed to a congregation with a debt of considerable size, that if they raised $1,000 for the con;mon fund, a large portion would be returned to them to relieve their own needs. Another d partmeat 6 to get Strong ccngr°gations who are putting out a large contributiou, to take weaker ones under their wings, and devote a part of their contributions particularly to it or to apportion @ small emount in the hands of the fund, to be used asthe cov ributing church may designate at a later period The Common Fund will be $600,000, of which nearly one half will be for mis- sious. The large sum of money spent anvually in interest of the mission depart- meat, 18 to be done away with, and ibe work extended. Tunis department will bave $104,000. It will also havea church and manse building food. If weget the right spirit we will get more than $1,000,000.00. Rev. Dr. Robertsor, from the North West, spoke a!so on the same subject, giv-~ ing good encovragemeut from the Weet. Dr. Gordon, Hal fax, spoke as to the amount of the $1,000,900 .expected to be raised by the Maritime Synod. This tody last year raised $400,000, out of $2,500,- 000, for all church purposes, that would be that this Synod may be expected to con- tribute $175,000. Dr. Campbell pointed out that subscriptions can be allotied to avy of the echemes of the Fund, that they may be paid at any time, and that minister’s coutribu- tions are expected to be credited to their corgregations. The wmipisters throughout the Church are attempting to raise among themselves 1-10 —$100,000-—- of the whole fund, thus each minister on the average, will give one-tenth as much as his whole congregation. The ministers are taking the lead in giviog, and are asking their ficcks to follow. A ecries of comprehensive resolutions was'moved by Robert Murray and spoken to by ministers and eldere. There was interest intense, and perfect unanimity with every point; the last resolution ex~ preseing full determination, by God’s help, io bringthis great enterprise to & success~ ful conclusion, was carried by a standing vote. Dr. Gordon, at the request of the moderater, offered prayer. A committee has been appointed to carry out the directions of the synod and of the assembly.
