the Empire and of humanity and
civilization in general. we were
bound to carry through the war with

ren of Flanders Rescue Committee, in

Paris, says:
“Since the warbegan Mrs. Wharton,
who has lived' iii Paris for the last
few years. has worked heart and soul
for the helpless refugees who have
poured i'.-n from Belgium and from the
invaded' provinces of France; niany
recently from Verdun.
“Three large, empty buildings were
turned over to her, and into them
come more than three thousand men,
women and children for their daily
meals. Doctors and trained' nurses
