On account of the crowded condition of the car the trnnsfer was jostled from her lmnll and and fell from the car. A num- ber of witnesses infornled thb conductor that tlte passenger had a transfer, but she was forced front the int' by the conductor who assniled her with offensive cpithets. The jury in the lower court gave the e- cjected passenger $1.200 damages. Tile case was appealed the Supreme Court of Illinois, where it was urged that thc verdict was excessive. The Supreme Court declined to take such a narrow view of the case, and held thilt the plaintiff was entitled to recover damages for insults as well as the actual cash loss sustained.'I`he Court ruled that the passengers of a public carrier are entitled to courteous treatment and that it is the duty of the carrying company to see that its employees give this sort of treatment to its passengers.
