__1 NOVEMBER 19, 1932 Fl /. THE CHARLOTTETOWN“ GUARDIAN "-2 Psi ‘LI ‘I’ orsss ' r‘ ' +21‘ '24" ‘ Imperial Oil And (Eras Depot , Up-To-Date In Every Resp ect Situated in the very heart of the city, the Imperial Oil and Gas Station constructed by Lowe Bros. for the Im- perial Oil Company of Canada, will be opened to the public today. It is the largest and best equipped » station which has ever been built in the . Province. The site, at the corner of Great George and, Euston Streets, is. . roomy enough to accommodate a targe ~ number of customers at the same time. The station proper sets well back I from the street and the open area in ___»-~-—~~ frotnt affords easy means of access and ex . W‘ G‘ Gwen,“ Eight gas pumps of the latest rie- siqn are a guarantee that patrons will not be kept waiting unnecessarily. All Imperial products of course, will be handled exclusively. The well known Three Star and Im- perial Ethyl brands of gas will be the only ones carried. ' The equally well known oils of the Company, Mobil, Mar- velube and Mobil Arctic will be available at all times. The general facilities for servicing cars will be far in advance of anything previously offered car owners in this city. The station has three wash stands and twogrease pits. A Mar- quette power washer is being installed and hot and cold water and also live steam are to be on ready at any hour of the day. This means that much of the inconvenience of washing a car in cold weather will be eliminated. A further improvement is the installation of steam heat which will ' be a comfort to customers waiting for their cars. or at=-such= times as they wish to make small repairs themselves. A constant supply of live steam and hot water also permits the under part of cars to be thoroughly cleaned during cold weather. The design of the station, spaciousand modern in ev- ery wayis one of its most attractive features. In every sense it has been built with an eye to giving service quick- ly, efficiently and with a minimum of trouble to automo-m bilisis. It is laid out scientifically 1 xi throughout is of the most substantial materials. Large flood lights will illum- inate the whole location and in the interior of the building extra care has been taken to provide adequate light» by "day. " I The floor in the main wash roam is of concrete with unusual precautions in the matter of drainage. a ‘ The exterior view reveals a pleasing color scheme ‘if buff and green over a stucco frontage. The manager of the new station is Mr. W. G. Gillespie, N a native‘ of Charlottetown and known throughout, the length and breadth of the province. "Bill” is also the popu< lar manager of the Charlottetown Forum where his execu- tive ability and courtesy last year made him a high favor- ite with the public. His integrity and square dealing are indisputable and the public are assured that at the Imper~ ial Gas and Oil Station they will be treated with all pos- sible fairness. Bill‘s experience in the automobile business was gained at Boston, where for a number of years he was salesman for the Nash-New England Company on Commonwealth Avenue. He was a valued member of the staff of this com- pany until two years ago when he returned to Charlotte- town to accept a position with the Universal Motors Com- pany with whom he remained until one year ago. During the World War he served with the artillery in France and for ‘several years, and before the Armistice went to Russia with the North Russia Expeditionary Force. Because of his war experience, his business connections in ' the city and country as a car salesman, his prominence as a former coach of the Abegweits, a former Abegweit hockey and football player and as manager of the Forum, he has an exceptionally wide acquaintanceship and has many contacts with the public. His duties at the Forum at present will not permit him to take active charge of the new Imperial Station and dur- ing thewinter months Mr. Hibbert Saunders will act in his stead. Hibbert Saunders is also well known for his sterling character as an employee of the Ford Motor Com- pany in this city and also in the company's offices in Saint . John. His athletic career has been just as conscientious and he has participated for the Abegweits in three sports, hockey, baseball and football. This year he is once rrore a member of_ the Abenweit hockey squad, and he has been a familiar figure in Abegweit rugby games until a few weeks ago. , "~"‘Several llbars ago he captained the Abegweits during the hockey season when the team captured a hard earned Island championship from Summerside. Much in the pub- lic eye because of his athletic prowess Hibbert is known 'to the‘ citizenry of Charlottetown as a young man who plays the game to win, but as one who can be a most grace- ful" loser. In these two men. Messrs. Saunders and Gillespie. the Imperial Oil Co. have been very happy in their selec- tions and it is felt that the people of the province zuiil real- ize that the character of the company and its business re- cord, will be well maintained.
