THE Halifax Herald Says:-At this
season last year there were laid up in
Halifax harbor' twelve or fifteen Prince
Edward Island vessels with cargoes of
potatoes. At present there are not mor'
than three or four. This means that next
spring there will be il. shortage of Island
st>ok and that later on prices maybe
higher than usual till navigation opens.
Another rather remarkable fact is that
tlzere are no really first-class apples in
this uiorkefi today. There may be plenty
in the hands of the farmers in the country
but Halifax, in the meantime, is barren
of the best fruit. Prices range all the
way from $1.5) to$`l.00 per birrel. The
scarcity of Nova Scotia' dairy but-fer is
stillmarked. There is practically none to
