HASZARD & MOORE, SUNNYSIDE BOOKSELLERS CHARLOTTETOWN. a NOTICH., Notice is hereby given that the firs¢ Avnnal Meeting, ofthe Wheatley River Hill Company, vill be held in the hall of the caid Company, at Wheatley River, in fueen’s County, on Monday, the twenty~ b’nth day of Aucust, A. D., 1898, at seve clock p. m., for the purpose of organiza- Hon, electing officiers, making by~laws 4nd the transaction of general business. gente’ this 1$:h day of August, A. D., 8, FALBERT McKAY Chairman of Committee 189 dy wtf ness horses held in England, out of seventy-five horses, fifty~seven changed hands and several were afterwards cold at private sale. A chestnut cob, 14 hands 2 inches high, brougt 62 guineas and a» chestnut gelding, 15 hands 3 inches high, brought 6@ guiveas. There was a large attendance of buyers, and trade for har-« ness horses and cobs was exceedingly brisk, , Sir Herbert Kitcheser’s advance on Khartoum bas begun and is conducted like clock work. The Khalifahas withdrawn from his entrenchments at the Shabulka cataract, but the War Office is con- fident that he willfight. The Omdurman country is rising behind him and he dare not now retreat. When enl how Kitch ever will strike his final blow nobody wil! know until it falls. That is Kitchener’s Way, as witness the blow he struck ard the victory he wor at the Atbara last Good Friday. The firm of Eder, Dempster ard Co., have just added a 11,000 ton steamer to their Canadian fleet, a fact which em- phasizes the increasing keeness of com. Fetition for that trade and the importance attached here to future developments, The Mesers. .\llan are quite alive to the dangers ahead, and have on the stocks new steamers tothe value of nearly $4,- 000,000. The Alla people are promis- ing @ seven days’ passage to Canada. They are hopeful to get the mail contracts next year. The Mauelgester Ship Canal, on the last half year’s working, succeeded in paying interest to the first and second mortgage debentnre holders, but not to the Man- chester City Couneil, which has now an accumulated debt of of $3,506,000 for interest alone. Still, the outlook for the andertakiog is very much more promising than ever. The net revenue of ‘the half year amounted to $100,000, as against a loss of $4,500 on the first half of 1887. The toll.paying merchandise increased from 957,210 to 1,173,880 tons; sea~borne traffic showed an increase of 196,712 tons; coal of 90,000, grain imports of 21,400 tons. The task oi) trade has made a good beginning, over 20,000 tons having been imported during the half year. Altogether it looks as if the long lane of deficits and difficulties was at last near the turning. — a _ = Rurt in New Erunswick.
