Blackadar, the well-known ssil-maker, was married last evening to A. E. Mills, merchant of Bos- ton. The bride, who was dressed in white silk, was attended by a cousin, Miss Bella Blackadar, who was similarly attired. The groom was supported by Berte Clarke, of Annapolis. Mail. sasicapipaaciil A Conrreremps at SBarnvurst.— A Bathurst despatch to the Transcript says that yesterday morning on the arrival of the accommodation from Campbelton, an altercation took place betweed Mr. Geo. P. Jardine, of Moncton, and C. Bruce Macdougall, editor of the Restigouche Pioneer. During the altercation, which was caused by the Pioneer's attack upon Messrs. Lea and Jardine’s work on the new I. C. R. tanks, blows are said to have been struck. The matteris likely to be taken into a Justice’s court, as Mr. Macdougall has sworn out before Justice McLauglan a warrant against Mr. Jardine. —-_- Wanr a Sutpment or Wives.—The Acting Mayor of Montreal has received a letter from a woe-begone bachelor in Bisbee, Arizona,who says be writes for himself and a number of other miners there. The letter states that the miners earn good pay, have usually from $1,000 to $5,000 each in the bank, and thatall these disconsolate and desolate Adams need is . an Eve apiece to make their wilderness blossom. Young girls with matrimonial tendencies between 14 and 20, so the letter says, would find good situations as wives, and the miners moreover are quite ready to send money for theic fare. ‘he Acting Mayor of Montreal, hardly knowing whether to take the letter in jest or earnest, has instructed the City Clerk to reply that he is not the head of a matrimonia! agency, and does not feel like ‘‘organizing a society for the furnishing of wives to disconsolate miners.” «+e vrure Religious Services. Application has been made for the incor- poration of the Barclay-Clements company (limited), for the purpose of carrying on a general commission, shipping and broker- age business, with headquarters at Yar- mouth, and a capital of $50,000. The net debt of Canada decreased a | million and a half during the past month. Completed returns for the fiscal year ended June 30th show a surplus of four millions, being more than a million better than estimated. The returns of the first two months of the present fiscal year show a surplus of two and a quarter millions. Supt. Wilmot has just returned from British Columbia.
