Rise in Parper.—The Coburg Senti- nel-star’says:—Thoe price of paper has been advanced. If this price is main-~ tained, the publie will be compelled to pay more for their newspapers, Many daily papers have already increased thetr price from twenty to thirty cents per week, and weekly papers from $1.50 to $2.09 per year. Taree moaths’ saving of ravs and old paper by the entire po- pulation, a d selling them in the mar- kets, would check the advance ia paper. Rags are worth three to three and one-haif cents per pouad, Every news- paper in the land should appeal to the people in this matter, and they should also economize in the consumption as } zante much as possible. > Speaking of the oddities of selfish- ness, Mae wilian’s Magazine tells the following : Mest amusing are the strange fancios that some persons have as to what overworked men may be asked to do for them. In the very thick of the American war there came to President Lineoln an Illinois farmer in a great state of excitement about a pair of horses that one of Lincoln’s Generals had requisitioned for the war. _ The owner was, of course, entitled to com- pensation, but somehow it had not come. Going to the President he told him his story, and was rather chagrined to be told that it did vot lie with him to pay the money. ‘Then,’ says the farmer,’ will you undertake to write to the General and see that the matter is settied properly ?? Poor Lincoln, who never wanted for a story to help him in an emergency, was ready for his visitor. ‘When Iwasa rail-splitter,’ he said, ‘ there live l near us a smart young fel- low, the Captain of a Mississippi boat, who could »teer a vessel over the rapids with wonderful skill, as hardly any one else could. One day, when he was grasping the wheel with his utmost strength, at the most critical point of the rapids, « little boy came runniug up to him in great excitement, and said ‘Cap’n stop your ship, my apple has fallen overboard !’ PS a a 4 Good Thing. Constitutional Catarrh Remedy GURES CATARRH. Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the Constitutional Ren.edy. T. J. B. Harprxe, Esq., Brockville, Ont.:— Dear Str—It is now two years since your “‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced tome. I have waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy eifects seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to true.” I was afflicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par. ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop” from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit upin the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had. used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite clear ef that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for a cold in my head4 A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefield’s Constitutional Catarrh Remedy and take no other. __T. J. B. Harprxe, Dominion Agent, Brock- ville, Ont.
