Eldon, the Chosen ‘Spot, Gave a Most Cordial Wel- COIHC. \J Labor Day proved ideal tor the so Annual Scottish Gathering. a cele- bration that has seldom or never been missed for the pust hundred ears. Last year was the centen- nial oi the Club, end a determined effort was made this year to begin the second century with u more than ordinarily successful gather- ing. Fate seemed to be against the Club at the outset. Old Home Week broke in upon all ordinary annual celebrations, and other fea- tures and attractions made it prac- tically an impossibility to hold the Gathering in Charlottetown with any‘ prospect oi success. A recom- mendation was adopted by the Club in June to endeavor to have the Gathering at some suitable place in the country. and aiter lnany difllculties it was ultimately tie-cided to meet in Eldon, the cen- tre oi the good old Scottish settle- ment of Belfast. No better centre could have been chosen, and the (tethering took place there on Mon- day. proving one oi the most suc- cessful in the Club's history. it was estimated that over n thou- sand people visited Eldon in the course oi the day, people pouring in by steamer, auto and team. The weather being gloriously fine, everybody enjoyed themselves to the limit. The celebration began by the gathering oi the Clans at the Club Rooms at half-past nine in the morning, under the direction oi Mr. J. G. McFsdyen. senior vice-presi- dent and ex-Chiei George MacCoo lnsc, who discharged the duties oi lnarsball. With flags flying. pipes and drums playing, the gay tartan plaids fluttering in the breeze. the Scotsmen set out on their march to Erin-e Stewart's Wharf, attract- ing crowds on their way. The SS.
