It. was generally believed, however, that the Rlchlbucto man who had purchased the vessel only a few hours before, met death when the Amerob went up in flames off Mirn- minigash. When Robert Long, en- gineer, rowed back to the craft in the dory, which was blown of! the deck by the force of the explosion, he found only Charles Michaud, L. Doyle, and an unnamed men, who made up the remainder of the crew. Long and Michaud are still in a. serious condition from burns. STOORHOLM. FRAUD VICTIMS 0F IRISH PEDLAB The Suxninersidc Pioneer says: Several local citizens have been neatly "taken in" during the past few days by an old familiar “Irlsh“ pedlor with his line of genuine Irish linen table sets, his typical Irish manner and assortment of Irish stories. This gentleman, who has become quite o. character throughout the Marltirnes, arrived in town rc- oently and called on the Chief of Police, John Kane. He informed the chief that he had brought his son hero for the “salt water air," the boy not being 1n very good health. He also stated that he had with him a dozen Irish linen tablecloth sets which he intended selling, as he put it, "to make a few dollars." Chief Kane told him that it would be nec- essary to procure a license and this the pedlar did after which he pro- ceeded with the sale of his "genuine Irish tablecloth sets." He sold them all, getting very good prices for them. One, lady. however. detected that they waronot genuine linen after she had paid 005 for a sat, but lnaroly nlorcorllod cotton with a good finish. Wadnaaday aha called on Chief Kane and explained things to him. The Chief at once proceeded to Mr. Pad- lar'| lodging house and was auccaae- ful in getting the lady's money back. This lady evidently informed a friend of the‘ fraud and discovered that she had paid I10 for a similar act. She also called on the chief and he sent her alter her money which was promptly refunded. And so the story went the rounds. One family who had been taken in to the tune of 0100 demanded a refund and were success- ful. Mr. Pedler then packed his trunk and left town. Chief Kane informed the Pioneer yesterday that if further complaints are received he will procure a warrant and arrest the gentleman as he knows where he can be found on short notice. iii-—- iland is a generous buyer roarlian norms-warn Ion ' Catalogue, Unload Art Ltd. ire John, Toronto. a-c-A. w. umsci. _,____._.__ . Captain Wolfgang 'Von Gronau and his three companions were in good condition and happy over the success of the hard flight. After snatching some sleep while waiting for the weather to clear, theyplanncd to leave for Halifax, pause to refuel, and then continue to New York. The hop to Halifax, roughly 130 miles as the crow flies, probably will be made tomorrow morning. Supplies of gasoline and oil have been stored there by military authorities.
