The Education Chairman El- bert Orr introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Harry Cudmore of the Provincial Red Cross, who 9 lined the Farm Safety Program ,. Cudmore made a few brief remarks and proceeded to show some films of interest. The first was a sing song film “Sing with the Commedors.” The group joined in Singing. The sec- oircl film was “Fire on the Farm“ It presented how to prevent fires, how to call fire department and how to fight the fire, and showed the importance of fire insurance. Mrs. Cudmore made some re- marks on the temperature at which hay becomes dangerous. ‘At 160 degrees it is time to do something about it and at 175 de- grees it is combustible. FIRE FIGHTING Fort Augustus H. 8: S. Meets The monthly meeting r the For-t Augustus Home and School Association was held on Monday evening, January 27 with a good attendance. The President, M-rs. Peter Kelly, presided. ‘The min- utes of the last meeting were read and approved. The recreation committee, which had been appointed at the previous meeting, suggested sev- eral games, which the children might enjoy on stormy days. A report from the Public Health Nurse, who had vi°‘ted the school recently was read and discussed Correspondence from the Provin- cial Home and School was read. Some of the me: hers volunteer- ed to report on the T.V. program “Nursery School", which h ad been recommended. Following a report by the Treas- urer, Mrs. Patrick Duffy, a film entitled, “Who Will Teaci. Your Child”, was shown by Sister Ray- mond Francis. Immediately after this, discussion groups were form- The fire fighter should place himself between the fire and the nearest exit so he will not be prevented from escaping .if nec- essary. “Miracle in Paradise Valley.” was an amusing film but showed how to prevent many farm accid- ents and how to plan a Farm Saf- ety Program in a community. 1200 ACCIDENTS Mrs. Cudmore then gave some remarks which stressed the need of farm safety programmes thr- ough this province. She reported there were 1200 accidents minis- tered to by the Charlottetown and P.E.I. Hospitals in the past year. The Average cost os such accid- ents was greater than $70.00 Sterling MacRae thanked Mrs. Cudmore for the inspiring pro- gram on farm accidents. ’ Lunch was served by the com- mittee and was enjoyed by all. Further discussion took place re- garding the Safety plan. The third film was “Fight that Fire.” This film showed the different types of extinguishers for individual types of fires. It’ stressed the importance of making oneself familiar with the instructions on various fire extin- guishers at hand. ‘_It showedthe position at which to. hold the extinguisher until ready to apply to the fire. The extinguisher should be removed irbin the wall by grasping the top of the machine upright. Pius Callaghan, chairman of the play committee urged the members to advertise the show to their friends. GEN MONTAGE DEBT Mortgage Debt To Be Revised WASHINGTON (AP)-— Central Vermont Railway asked the Inter- state Commerce Commission Mon- day for authority to rearrange its mortgage obligation to its parent company, Canadian N a t i o n a l Railways. The petition said the change would mean a saving of $195,000 a year in interest for Central Ver- mont. Central Vermont proposes to is- sue a $17,000,000 0-year, four-per- cent note to the CNR in exchange -for the Central Vermont securi- ties now held by the parent com- pany. These are $1,000,000 of five ptr cent first mortgage bonds, maturing Jan. 1, 1960. and $5,- 000,000 of 51/2 per cent debentures which fell due Jan. 1, 1955, and have not been paid.
