Well its when cyclists gather together on the last Friday of every month to promote bike awarness and as an alternative to the car. This month being September, the Mass will be held on the 25 @ 5:00, beginning in front of the statues at Province House. This month's route will be straight up University Ave, up to UPEI and back again. Remember, Saftey first! Bring a helmet and bike safe. Hope to see you there!! ve The MAPUS Connection By Janice Muir Welcome back to UPEI. With the fun in the sun just about over for another year, it is time once agin to hit the books. If you are a first time student, you may feel a little overwhelmed. Don’t worry. Before you know it, everything will become routine. The most important thing to remember is that there are many people at the University who are willing to help you. One of these organizations is Mapus -- a campus group that assists and represents all Mature and Part time student son campus. If you are more than 24 years of age, then you are automatically a member and are entitled to certain student benefits. Located in the Robertson Library building, the Mapus lounge offers a friendly atmos- phere where you can meet other students like yourself. There is a telephone for making local calls and lockers are available at a nominal cost. It is alsoa place where you can find out about university life, student initiatives and upcoming events. Drop in when you have a moment, enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and some heartwarming conversation. Be sure to meet our newly elected President, Wylie Hall. He and several other committee members have worked diligently over the summer promoting Mapus among the first time student population. We extend a special welcome to all of you and look forward to a happy and productive school year. The second initiative that is new for Mapus is this newspaper column. It is hoped that the student body will find the information contained in itto be both meaningful and timely. At the same time, we are seeking your ideas about the type of article that you would like t see. Some of the students we asked wanted to see a help line or a “dear advice” type format. Give us your ideas and suggestions. What information would you like to see in a Mapus article? Remember, the most important role that a students’ association can play is that of providing valuable input into the decisions that affect our learning opportunities. We are in this thing together.
