Page 2 Victory in Halifax! UPEI Captures Top Prize at Campus Com- edy Regional Finals By Cabaret Chuck and Sebastian We did it! We won! The competition was held the night of Wednesday, January 31 at Dal- housie University in the Gray- wood Lounge in the Student Union Building. Schooner spon- sored the event and it was a blast. These were the eight acts in the competition: Pat McCarthy Tragically Flawed Christie Morden Chuck Campbell Andrew Doyle The Gem Cabaret Chuck and Sebastian Mike Malott Greg Purves We can’t do justice to the other contestants by telling you how funny they were, but it was easy to see why each one had won at their individual campus com- petitions. We never thought we would win anything, because ev- eryone else was so good; we were just happy to be there. From the eight acts, one was chosen as the grand prize win- ner and one was chosen as the runner-up. Chuck Campbell from Dalhousie was chosen as the runner —up, but from the audi- ence’s reaction, we thought for sure he would place first. G I A C | ys Geucone! When our names were announced as the grand prize winners, we couldn’t believe it. It was an in- credible rush when we went on stage to collect our prize. We were thinking how excited every- one at home was going to be when they found out. We would never have gone this far without the help ofa number of people. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them publicly. Firstly, thanks to Jason MacNeill, who gener- ously loaned us his keyboard equipment and help us find “our sound”. Thanks to Jason Derry, who hauled our gear and drove to Halifax with superhuman skill — you would have thought he was a cop! Thanks to everyone in the Music Department for all their support. Thanks to Bruce Ansems, who led the cheering sec- tion at the Graywood and was re- sponsible for getting the crowd on our side. A big thanks to Darren Pickrem, who put us up at the Lord Nelson Hotel and gave us all the pizza and Schooner we could get down. Lastly, most importantly, thank you, UPEI for giving us the chance to compete. Thank you for all the kind words of praise and encouragement you gave us. We want everyone on campus to share our victory be- cause it is your victory too, and we couldn’t have done it without you!
