Work Progressing On New Montague Federal Building .'lt is expected that. in a few days the public building at Mon‘.- ague will be entirely closed in with tile and brick work fast near- ing completion. The east side and south side are being faced with limestone slabs which present it ON CONDITION OF- Tho condition of the public buildings of the Province is a mat- ter of general interest. and Friday the Legislative committee on Pub- lic Buildings submitted a report which was commended by the House for its thoroughness. Mem- bers of the committee are Hon. Dougald MacKinnon. chairman. Messrs. George E. Saviile. Frank Myers. Harvey Douglas and Hu- bert J. Gaudet. Following is the text of the report: Your Committee has visited as many of the 120 public buildings as time and other duties ~ of the Legislature permitted. and reports on these buildings as follows. Government I-louae—'I'his fine old building was found to be in a re- markably good state of repair con- sidering its age and frame con- struction. The exterior of the building appears to be in good condition, except that it is time for a new coat of paint. The in- terior of the building was found to be in immaculate condition and reflects great credit on Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Prowse. The floor joists. as viewed from the basement. are showing signs of decay. Many have been replac- ed and more replacements will be necessary from year to year to keep the building in a proper state of repair. It was noted that one carpet has become badly worn,and stains have appeared in a few places on ceilings. set tuba in the laundry room are causing minor very attractive appearance. and which will lend immeasurably to the attractiveness of the town. Queen's County Jail-—This brick building is in good general condi- tion. One toilet room needs a. new partition and one new toilet. The general condition of the cell block was somewhat untidy. It was thought. that with so many in- mates. some help could be obtain- ed from them in keeping the place clean. Beach Grove Infirmary — Mr. Bonnell conducted the Committee tliroueh this frame building which was formerly a. summer hotel. The condition of the building is satis- factory in every respect. Falconvrood Hoapltal—- fa) Fe- male Division—The condition of this brick building is generally satisfactory. It was noted that conditions in the Disturbed Ward on the base- ment floor are more than usually crowded. but it is understood that steps are now being taken to rem- edy this condition. It was noted that trouble with toilets has caused severe damage to several ceilings. Floor covering is badly needed in some basement rooms and corridors. laundry fa- cilities are inadequate. The only criticism of this building is that it seems already too snail for the very numerous activities carried out in it. It should be noted here that the Brick Laying Class had to be held in the Government Garage this year because space was not available in the Vocational School for the large number of students taking the course.
