' 1 ; @tfiifgj; , Dear Editor: . _ I would like to respond :to Joseph Sanlei's article "The Abortion - Dilemma", which appeared . in the Jan. 31 gun. I v'will attempt to show that Mr. Sanlei's article lacks objectivity and as such is not a useful addition to the abortion debate. Mr. Sanlei begins, and writes approximately half of the article, in an ob— jective manner. He cites ‘ f. care of you. He cites recently whose chief finding- was tha ".. more than 88%; supported abortion in all or some circumstances" . r Congratulations, Joan, on, having won agPan Am trip for two Round the World in 80 days or less, plus $2,000 spending money from Robert J. He ‘ cites a Boston Globe editorial which he says chargesthat "..those . opposed to Medicaid, funding of abortions have insured that poor women bear the brunt of the belief - that abortion is always morally wrong". This statement involves . interpreting an inequity 60M€THINGFOR * YOUR MOTHER- le MW. I $6 - DO ' mu HAve ANV— THlNG lN MIND? Blue Cross Protection . .. - a must for travellers! . Clearly, if the ruling of the " Supreme Court is not, being enforced in an equitable ‘ .manner, it is the fault of those whose responsibility - it is to enforce it, not ' the anti-abortion, forces. Next Mr. Sanlei cites a _ study which advocates abortion on demand; but he fails to mention that there are also studies in e>cistencewhich advocate increased restrictions on abortion. Then comes the concluding paragraph, the final sentence of which Mr. Sanlei again betrays his lack of ob- jectivity: "Canadians must nay to gUarantee that the right to ‘a_ free choice (concerning abortion) becomes a reality throughout the Canadian nation". I object to Mr. Sanlei's lack of objectivity in "The Abortion Diletrma" because objectivity ‘— at all times the prime journalistic principle - becomes even more important when the - controversy being dichssed is one with the immense magnitude of the abortion issue. An addition to the abortion debate which does not strive for total objec- tivity. is not useful. ' John Moore Dm'wd ' ‘ , [214 Queen Street Charlottetown, P.E.l. . C1A 7K7 892-6111
