The discussions concerned the Dalhousie Invitational Match on Halloween weekend and the best way in which can prepare for the competition. Thanks to the initiative of Dr. Sims of AVC and the President of the society, Vivian Huizenga, we are delighted to have been able to prepare a “Workshop Weekend” with the distinguished John Fil- liter on Sunday, October 23. This small but valuable course is de- signed to assist students in their public speaking abilities and de- bating skills. It is an open to in- vitation to all full and part-time students who are interested in in- creasing their knowledge of an ef- fective debating style. We have cordially invited all debating so- cieties of the various high schools within the Charlottetown region and have opened it to the gen- eral public as well through adver- tisements in the Guardian. The workshop weekend will be held on Sunday, October 23, at 10:00am, Lecture Theatre C, for a cost of $5. The Vice—President c° the so- ciety, Bob Smith, has created a follow up meeting for the mem- bers who unfortunately cannot attend the regular time. This ‘ group will also have small in- promtue debates to help increase News from MAPUS Mature And Part—time University Students. A proposal to initiate a part-time student fee in the amount of $5.00 per course per semester (maximum of $10.00 per semester), beginning January 1989, was put to a motion and was passed by the Board of Gov- ernors on October 3rd, 1988. MAPUS has procured a guar- anteed and continuous source of funding providing a basis of which to better meet the needs and tap the potentials of mature and part-time students. It has received recognition by the Uni- versity’s highest governing body, the Board of Governors, as a viable and responsible organiza- tion. MAPUS’s self-image as well as the image of the University of Prince Edward Island as support- ive of Continuing Education is in- creased. There are 812 part-time stu- dents and 324 full-time mature (24 yrs and over) students en- rolled at the University of Prince Edward Island. eet a a a a a Come to eee eee eee eeeeeee eee eeeereeeee v099leg for a unique Halloween Costume Jordan Cres.
