the season is about 10 days' earlier
than usual. and farming operations
in that province are well advanced.
Seeding ls becoming fairly gen-
eral in the southem and central
districts of Manitoba and Saskat-
chewan. but it has barely been
commenced in the northern areas
of these provinces and in Alberta.
While initial moisture conditions
generally are ample. subsoll mois-
ture reserves are meagre over large
areas.
In Quebec spring ploughing is not
yet. general ,due to continuance of
frost in the ground. Fall wheat in
Ontario has come through the win-
ter fairly well, and see"imr is gen-
eral. In the Maritime Provinces.
owing to adverse weather, seeding
will be delayed by ss much as two
weeks in certain sections.
Fall wheat wintered well in Brit-
ish columbia and sowing of spring
grains is 50 per cent completed.
Germination, honnver, has been
slow and growth is backward.

Pastures and meadows are in
good condition. Orchards in' the
Annapolig Valley show little sign of
winter kill. Livestock has wintered
well. Indications are that the scre-
sgxe devoted to potatoes will be less
than last year.

WINNIBBG. May 2.-The Domin-
ion Government is prepared to fur-
nish $10,000,000, or whatever amqum
may be necessary, to deal with the
drought problem in Western 'Jan-
ada, Hon. R. B. Hanson, Minister ol
Trade and Commerce, said in an

address ere y.
Reclamation of the drought areas
is a duty recognized by the govern-
ment, he said, and the present ad-
ministration is ready to go any
reasonable length to repair the rav-
ages of long years of drought and
to restore the affected areas to pm-

duct veness.
While $750,000 was provided in the
government legislation to deal with
the problem, that amount was only
a start, the Minister continued. Agri-
cultural Minister Hon. Robert Wclr
had asked for an appropriation for
only the first year, and a greater
amount would have been looked up-
on as s bribe to the electors.

Hill, P. E. I. passed away in the
city of Syracuse, on May l, 1905, at 2
A. M.
The body was intercd
Hope Cemetrv, U1 Boston, Mass-
achusetts, Friday afternoon, May 3.
His daughter Katherine and her
husband William Cowie ,and his
son Daniel accompanying the
remains to Boston. where he lived
for over forty years. He will rest
with his wife Annie, who died a few
years ago.
Besides the immediate members
of his family, he leaves to moum
his passing, his brothers and sister.
Mrs. 'Neil J. MacDonald of Mid-
dieborv. Mass, his only sister,
mourn their loss with keen sym-
pathy. His brother, Peter N. Reilly
of Forest Hill. P. E, I. and another
brother, Maxwell, of Buoksport,
Maine, and Andrew, of Boston,
Mass.. and Daniel, of Murray Har-
bor, P. E. I.. and James, of
Gsspereaux, P. ll. I., all mourn
the loss of their brother .who was
their eldu' ,and their council and
guide in many ways.
The late Mr. Reilly visited his
native home about five years ago,
after sn absence of nearly 40 years.
