R. Allen, ichairmnn of the mails committee, freud a letter from the Postal De- partmt-nt at Ottawa in which it WES stated that owing to tho ne- cessity for economy the department could not grunt the request. The letter further stated that ih~~ mail carriers in Charionetown waited for the mail from the West and so it did not make so very much difference. It went be- hind the washing machine. Patrick pursued it. Crawford heard hLs call and turned from her work in the kitchen. Patrick's grandmother also came to the rescue. They coaxed Patrick to try th's way and that way. They tried to draw him out gently. Each time Patrick insisted they qirlt when it began to hurt him. Finally they decided to call the frc department. In a few minutes a fire reel roared up. District chief William Corbett and his men entered the house ‘Phey brought a. pair- of crowbars and jlmmied the bars apart so that Patrick could withdraw his head.
