Already new win- ter wheat, of splendid quality and yield, has made its appearance, while there is yet a plentiful supply of the old. Sin,—It was my large privilege to be present at the superb, magnificent and classical organ recital by Professor Earle, at St. Paui’s Church, on Friday after- noon. Mody & Sankey, Bradbury, Emerson and such kindred trash did not appear to any extent on the pro gramme. Such rubbish, which ought to be prohibited by law from being imported, thanks to Professors Earle and Vinnicombe, the Ladies of the Convent and a few more interpretors and appreciators of MUSIC, is dying a natural death, but dy- ing hard, for the sole ambition of the majority of musical aspirants here appears to be mediocrity. I am glad to hear that Prof. Earle intends to give another recital shortly to everyone who wishes to hear him. By the time the Rhine reached the fire it had nearly burnt out, but it could be seen that it was a large vessel on fire. The sight was a gorgeous one and the crew stood for hours watching it. No small boats or men could be seen anywhere about, and Captain Bowlby is of the opinion that the vessel was abandoned and set fire to by a slow fuse which either connected with powder or oil.
