roseis a rose is a rose Currently showing at the onfederation Centre Art allery is 3 exhibit entitled 'Rose Museum" which was initially started by two minters and art teachers, amely Ron Moppet and John all of Calgary, Alberta. If you haven't already wessed it, the topic matter 3 naturally the Rose in every wnceivable facet; rose wall- wper, paintings of roses, abox of rose incense etc. The list is endless some of the exhibit is traditional,/ contemporaryL abstract. An international Society of Rose Painters was even established and many have sent their ‘ objets de rose to the Moppet and Hall collection. There is anywhere from 200—1000 objects, depicting the rose in the current exhibit. With such a variety of the rose in so many different aspects (paintings, sculpture, photography, crafts, clothing)' ' the response of the public can vary quite a bit. The exhibit can make you laugh cry-and at times just plain wonder! To me it's rather quite appealing and very- central to the nature of art. Which to me requires (usually) an emotional reponse from the viewer. It really doesn't matter what sort of response is given by the individual,‘ as long as the object being Viewed strikes something Within the person viewing the particular object. It's all part of the art world and even if you don't _ Particularily like a piece of work, you've given it recognition first by stating Your personal disgust or What ever. Interestingly enough, roses have been the symbol of Perfection, elegance, romance. and love for countless Centuries. The rose petals Could be equated to the many different aspects of love: the thorns of the rose remind us all that we ineVitably at sometime do experience much hurt and, «than ; diSpair through love. Its perfection in itself: to obtain the actual rose(love) but at the same time, trying to by pass the hurtful times. ‘The "Rose Museum" exhibit will undoubedly have somethi for everyone: from the plain and simple to the surrealism of Esther Warkov. Approach the exhibit with an open_ mind and take your time browsing through memory lane. I'am more-than sure that you will enjoy the exhibit and its fantasy. You have until Feb 2 before the exhibit moves on. , ‘ By the way, you needn't be a veteran of the War of Roses to be a part of the Rose museum.
