Mr. Les Gay of Montague is still an active farm- er, hole and hearty. On Friday he spent the day assisting Mr. Ben Weatherbie at threshing, feeding the machine the whole day. a job which would tax the resources of many younger men. A farmer all his life. Mr. Gay is always ready to assist others in their work. ' CHICKEN HOUSE DE- STROYED - A fire of unknown origin destroyed a chicken house owned by Mr. Lowell Johnston. urday morning. The fire was dis- covered about 3 A. M. by Mr. Wil- liam Irving while on his way to the shore to haul lobster traps. Besides the chicken house, over 150 chickens and a brooder stove were lost. Efforts to extinguish the fire were of no avail since the out- break was too for advanced. Farewell Party Elven By Residents of Lower Montasus ..'Mr. and Mrs. Peter Van Schoopen were guests of honor recently. when their neighbours and friends. in Lower Montague. gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John 1:. Macxenzie, to tender them a farewell party. A compli- mentary address wes read by Mrs. Frank Dewar. They were the recipients oi many lovely gifts. after which all Joined in singing "For they are jolly good fellows", Mr. Van schoopen, graciously expressed their appreciation. The evening was spent in danc- ing and cards. Mrs. Alex Campbell and Mr. Archie Stewart, provided excellent music for the dancing. The large ship completed her dis- charge and left Montague the same day. Variety concert Mt. Albion Hall A very successful variety concert was held in the Mount Albion Hall on April 24th, sponsored by ihc Mount Albion Women's Institute The program consisted of songs by the school children, recitations, readings, and musical selections. There was also a pantomime, "The Wedding of Jack and Jill", by the school children. All numbers of the program were were greatly enjoyed and called for encores. During intermission candy and lunches were sold. The sum oi s28.00 was realized. Mrs. Henry Jenkins, president of the Institute. thanked all who had helped to make the concert is suc- cess, especially those who had come from a distance to take part in the concert. Montague in her 67th year. following an ill- ness of several months. Having undergone an operation. she re- cuperatcd to some degree. but Sul- fered a setback last week and quietly passed away at 4 P- 111- Saturday. Mrs. Riley was the daughter oi the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Sorrey of Line Road. P. E. 1.. 1118 youngest of three children. ' Following her marriage to Mr. Daniel Riley. they moved to Mon- tague, where she spent the re- mainder of her life. Besides her sorrowiiig husband. she leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Minnie (Mrs. Ger- aid Landry), Montague. and Lulu. (Mrs. Alphcnsus Larliin), Mon- tague: also three sons. Ver- non and Richard, both of Mon-' fugue and William in Brantford, Ont. One brother. George of Mon- tague also survives. A sister (Belle) predeceased her several years ago.
