FARM ACCIDENTS SHOW HEAVY TOLL Regarded as the most complete figures yet available of accidents on the farm, the sample survey made by the Bureau of Agricul- tural Ecunomlcs of the United States Department of Agriculture contains some impressive facts. The survey covered about 15.000 farms in 814 counties and was carried out in January. 1947. The sample chosen was designed to obtain figures representative of all the States. While the figures are subject to ‘later revision, nevertheless the results of the survey would indi- cate that from October to Decem- ber. 1046.. there were r0087!!!’ 210,000 accidents that inlured people living or worklnx on farms; that the injuries cost a total of 8.750.000 for medical, dental. and hospital expenses, and that the time lost from usual activities totalled 4.500.000 08V!- The accidents reported included all injuries to persons living or working on farms covered by the survey, counting lnluries both on and of! the farm. lVierical. dental, and hospital expense: growing from these accidents amounted to a little more than $84 pet‘ person injured.
