The two Provinces which have not' ~:i_ the standard of the ; styles of points to suit .1 ' (~ any hand. fi THE CANADA MEDICAL ACT BEING ACCEPTED. ___ EUHES Illllliilillilli ~ _ _ It is now nearly ten years since bla. but it confidently expected that _ A Dr. Ruddlck of Montreal introduced what is now the Canada Medical Act in the Dominion Parliament. The bill, in brief, aimed at establishing one set of examinations and one stand- ard of qualifications for the practice of medicine throughout the Domin- ion of Canada, in place of the differ- ent examinations and varying stand- ard of qualifications of the individual Provinces. The bill was passed in 1902, but owing to objections raised to certain features by Provinces jeal- ous as to their existing rights it was found impossible to give it effect. - About two years ago a meeting of the representatives of the Provincial Medical Councils was held in Mon- treal when Dr. duddick succeeded in securing the consent of all to certain amendments which he proposed to the original act. These amendments, re- moving the earlier objections, were embodied in a bill which was passed last winter by thc Parliament in Ot- tawa. It is part of the Act as it now stands that the Provinces give their consent to the principle of the _Act through a hill passed by their ‘own Lcgislatures, and this step has |becn taken in seven of the nine Pro- lvinccs. The Quebec Legislature took_ ithe required action but a few days_ _vet formally accepted the principle of' favorable action will be taken in the| British Columbia Legislature very' shortly, and in Ontario the Medical Council of thc Province favors like action, which will probably bc brought about within the current session. When the consent of all the Pro- vinces has been secured it is intended that a meeting of representatives of all the Medical Councils sha`l bc convened at Ottawa during the corn- ing summer when the Dominion Med- ical Council, as authorised by the' Canada Medical Act will be formed. Should either the Ontario or British Columbia Legislatures fail to sane-1 tion the Dominion Act, it will be proposed to amend the Act so that the seven or eight consenting Pro- vinces may go forward with thc or- ganisatlon. The movement is an interesting ami important one and when consummat-l ed will not only bring about uniform standards of qualification and uni- form examinations but will enable any qualified medical practitioner._ who may now be limited to R singlc_ Province, to practice his profossioul in any part of_ the Dominion. The l)0mllliDll M€dlCt1l Cguncil will have full authority over the purely profes- sional subjects, whllc the universities will probably exercise _thc same nuth- ority as they now do over the non- SOUTH RENFREW __ ____ ___ _ _ _ ___`§£.___191'; T” " ° ” ’\?_§..f.’.§.1` 5133.5 _.ff "A R ”’_"“ UNE illlii llSUlLll UH A Bill STUMAEH Every family hero ought to KW" J some lliapepsin in the house. as any - digestion or Stomach trouble at any __ time, day or night. _ _ .3 This harmless preparation will di- ;;cs`t anything you eat and overcome ~i 1; distressed, out-of-order stomach five minutes afterward.
