SOLDIERS ENTERTAlNED.- The
Young People’s 'Society of Zion
Church last night entertained a num-
ber of the members of the Heavy
Siege Battery in the social rooms of
the church. About forty of the sol-
diers were present and a very engoy-
able evening was spent. ‘A subs an-
tial dinner to which full justice was
done was the first number on the pro-
gramme and. it .was followed by
speeches in which the following took
part: llcv. G. U. Tayor, who pre-
sided; Mr. Fred Nash, Q. M.. Sergeant
Wedlock, Sergeant Coles, Staff Officer
ltoy Leitch, S. A. McDonald and John
Lawson. A solo was also excellently
rendered by Private Williamson and
several tousts drunk (in water) to the
King, the boys. the ladies andthe flag.
A very pleasant evening was brought
to a close by the singing of Auld Lang
Syno and the National Anthem.
PREMIER LEAVES FOR OTTAWA
-Sir Robert Borden has invited the
provincial Premiers and Ministers of
Education to a. conference in Ottawa
next Monday. Pursuant to this invi-
tation Premier Mathleson leaves to-
morrow morning for the Capital. The
purpose is to discuss with the Prime
Minister and the members of the
military hospitals commission some
proposals i'or dealing with employ-
ment for returning soldiers, both dis-
abled and able bodied. lt is expect-
ed that a comprehensive scheme will
be decided on and that arrangernents
will be made for active co-operation
between the Federal Government act-
ing through the military hospitals
commission and the provincial gov-
ernments.” Aplun has been prepared
at the instance ol' the Prime Minister
and Senator Loulieed, the president of
the military hospitals commission.
