SATURDAY, WHERE WE EXCEL S1 PRINCE EDWARD ISLANDER willhave read with justifiable pride the report in yesterday's Guardian oi the Royal Winter Fair at Toronto in which the silver foxes oi tllis province practically swept the tables. We who originated the domestication oi the silver iox have always felt confident that we pro- duced the best silver foxes in the world. Gradually. through such ex- hibitions as the Royal Winter Pair. this knowledge has become world- wide and our ioxes are now to be found in practically every country in the world which possesses a fur- producing climate. Reasons for the superiority oi Prince Edward island fox fur have frequently been given in this and other newspapers. and are generally understood. The silver fox fur is one of the lnost beautiful oi all furs and its beauty is oi a unique kind. It embraces sheen, fineness and the silver touch. tributcd by some to the absence of lime in our soil. the our medium temperature The sheen is at- finelless to and the absence of extremes oi either heat or cold. The silvery effect produced by the long guard hairs. is also at- tributed to the climate. In colder latitudes nature provides a woolly underwear to protect the animal; in warmer climates the heat is guarded against by a hairy and looser fur. While this is generally true oi all fur bearing animals. it is especially true oi the fox, which appears tc have been ‘endowed with a beauty all its own for the delectation of the ladies of all lands. It is because oi these inherent in the Prince Edward Island fox and the peculiar adapt- ability of our climate to produce it that there is such an insistent de- mand froln all over the world fol Prince Edward Island breeding fox- es. This season more breeders have been shipped from here to the ends oi the earth than ever before. And the demand will increasingly con- tinue. Many sections of our Canadian north are well adapt- ed for the production oi many varie- ties of valuable fur. but it is recog- nized by iur authorities ill those sections. that for the condi- tions of soll and climate llccessar} to produce the best silver fox iul" Prince Edward Island is ideal. The men who secured such honors for their native province at the various exhibitions in recent years. must not be overlooked while_ our attention is being directed towards the excellence of our silver foxes Whether our climate has anything to do with producing the enterprise skill and ambition which have beer. be difficult to prove. the big point is that we have them. and that wt owe them much. and are proud of them. ————<-o>———— CANADIAN DINNER IN ENGLAND ANADA gives to many of the products of Great Britain a sub- stantial preference in her markets. but Great Britain gives no prefer- ence ih her markets to the product: oi Canada.
