Commend Canadian Legion, B.!:. 8.1.... at the 23rd annual convention held yesterday at Georgetown un- der the auspices of the George- town Branch of the Canadian Le- gion. Tbirty-nine delegates were present representing the 24 branches in the Province. The total number attending the convention was approximately two hundred. The report submitted by presi- dent Earl G. Cannon of Summer- side indicated that the increase of . membership this year over last year was conslde able with the present membership standing at over 1,800. Mr. Cannon stated that the Legion in the Province was in a healthy condition, and that the work of promoting the Legion must continue. Since some areas were not yet fully covered. he felt that new branches should be organized, or the areas of pre- sent branches extended. Not only were the branches important, he said, but also the zone areas, which were designed to consider and dispose of problems in that area, and also to promote the work of the Legion on a wider scale. Dr. town I. K. L. Irwin of Charlotte- was elected President of the Prince 2 - P.E.I. Medical Association at the closing session of a two-day annual meeting which terminated on Sat- urday. The buslness sessions were held in the auditorium of Prince of Wales College. Other officers elected were: in vice president, Dr. John Downing, Summerside; 2nd vice president. Dr. J. H. Maloney, Charlottetown; secretary, Dr. T. A. Laidlaw, Char- lottetown; treasurer, Dr. R. G. Lea, Charlottetown. Members of the : executive elected were: Dr. George Dewar for Prince County (O'Leary) Dr. C. A. Coady, Queens (Char- lottetown); Dr. George Inman, King's (Montague). Dr. W. J. P. MacMilian was elected to represent the P. E. I. Medical Association on the execu- ' tive of the Canadian Medical As y soclation with Dr. J. A. MacMll- lan nfalternate. l WEDNESDAY 0” A grand total of 2.506 pupils were enrolled in the combined city schools yesterday. 85 C0mD8-red with 2.436 last year, or an increase of seventy. Indications are that - this total will be increased by 30 before all enrollments are record- ed. Following are the enrollments by schools with last years figures in parenthesis; Queen Charlotte High 420 (Nfl), Rochlord Square 560 (554), Queen Square 731 (725) West Kent 380 (545) Prince street (612) West Kent including 42 in Kindergarten 330 (545), West Kent Kindergarten will not be opened until later this month. The number of Normal Train- ing students registering It Prim? of Wales College yesterday was 42, g, drop of 20 over the previous year. It is pointed out that since the regulation calling for Junior matriculation went into effect last year a great many of the students anticipating the teacher training course will remain in their home school to qualify in this respect before coming for the Normal Training Course at P.W.C. It can be assumed therefore that the num- ber enroling in this class will be up considerably next year.
