When she left the house the children were in the living room playing with their toys. ATTEMPTED RESCUE Garry told her that he tried to get young Freddie out but the youiigcr child would not come with him. He was too heavy to carry. the little boy told her. Mrs. Som- ers entered the burning building through the kitchen into the living room to search for the baby but was forced out by the thick smoke. She could not find the door into the bedroom. On going to the rear of the house she crawled in through a window and searched in the bedroom for the missing child but could not find him. John Danton. a neighbor. saw the fire and raced to the house to find Mrs. Somers whom he had to restrain from entering the burning building. Mr. Denton thought that tween the ceiling and the roof af- ter it had been smouldering for some time previous. Mr. Nichol- son pointed out that these were only the personal opinions of the witness who actually had nothing to substantiate them. Fire Chief H. H. Jewell told of going to the fire.
