Two radically different articles are the Blessings of Monopoly, and the Oasis of Siwah. In the furmer, Rev. T. A. Hendrick, a Catholic clergyman, presents a strong argument for the competitive system and for monopoly, its inevitable result, and in the fatter | article a German writer shows, in ihe form of an allegory, the meaning of rent and interest. Toroyro, Jane 9. Since Monday last it has become evi- dent that the Mowatt Government is in greatest danger. Mr. Meredith is certainly the most popular man in Ontario day, and the Leader of an Opposition conducting the most vigorous campaign of his whole career. Sir Oliver may possibly pull through, but at the time of writing, west- ern Ontario is certainly against his admin- istration, and in the eastern part of the province even the Grits admit that Bishop Cleary’s violence has rallied hundreds of independent voices to Meredith’s side. The Conservative Leader scores Principal Grant and the Archishop of Kingston on every platform, and this policy certainly takes with the masses. There can be lit- tle doubt that the Cabinet will suffer sev- erely on the 26th as well as the Grit rank and file. The defeat of Gibson and Hardy may be looked for, and Fsanguine Opposi- tionists declare that Dryden will also be unhorsed. ————— UNFORTUNATE COXEYITES. —_——- A Number Drowned and Missing. Twenty-nine boats containing 185 men passed Hender- son Island bridge. But only twenty boats with less than 100 men reached Brighton. Many of the men are clinging to trees along the river banks.
