(CF) --Despite Canadian protests against trade- throtillng import restrictions. the United States agriculture depart- ment has announced new butter llmltatlons as part of a general reduction of dairy imports. The announcement Wednesday followed a strongly-worried note from Canada to the U. S. protest- ing new American quotations on foreign shipments of dairy pro- ducts, fats and oils. The new butler quotalllmlts im- port: from all countries to 707.- 000 pounds. New Zealand is al- lowed 332,000 pounds, Denmark 212,000 and 163.000 pounds is the group total allowed Canada, Ar- gentina, Australia, Finland, Nor- way, Sweden and Switzerland. The U. S. agriculture department did not break down the 163,000 pounds into allocations allowed the last Ileven countries. The butter restrictions are ei- fectlve until July 30, 1954, and are part of general restrlcllons recommended by the U.
