Arrests Made In Sumiiiersideb Following Breaks Summeralde police over the boil- day cracked down hard in a ser- IOIII campaign to end and clean up a number of breaks that have recently occurred. The campaign was officially opened early Wednesday morning by officers Elmer Mathcson and Keith Champion who surprised two young men returning home ul- legedly from ii. break that had just been made at Robinson's Bak- cry. Before the young men could say "If I'd known you were coming I'd have baked a cake" one of them was relieved of the eggs, lard. etc., that he was carrying. and an in- vestigation revealed he was warm- ly dressed in an item of clothing allegedly stolen from the War Sur- plus store, in A break that oc- curred the previous night. The other suspect escaped in a very fast dash, but swift action fol- lowed as Chief of Police Peter White, accompanied by Officers Joe Linkletter. Harry 'MacKay. and Elmer Matheson raided two homes, and recovered merchandise al- legedly stolen from a number of hitherto unsolved breaks. The merchandise recovered is said to have included a wide var- iety off items such as chocolates. Jewellery, plumbing fixtures, mis- cellaneous hardware, clothing. etc. The man who was arrested ap- peared on Wednesday morning and was separately charged with breaking, entering, and theft. in connection with the breaks at Robinsonls Bakery, and the War surplus store. He was not asked to plead, and was remanded in custody until Saturday when it is expected the case will be proceeded with. His suspected companion, who had not been taken into custody last night. is” already awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to a theft that occurred about two weeks ago. It is believed that both young men may be charged with other breaks which may be tied in with the stolen merchandise recov- ered in the raids. wk.
