B. Lewis, Alber- ton, which was tried at Alberton on September 9th, dismissing the case with costa. A. C. Saunders, Sum- xneralde, conducted the case for the defendant. The Presbyterian Synod of the Maritime Provinces meets this year in New Glasgow, ~ N. S., on October 4th to 7th. A conference of Minis- ters and elders on Evangelism 1195 been announced for Monday evening October 3rd but this has since been cancelled owing to the celebration of Dr Sedgwick's, jubilee at Tatama- gouche on the same evening. . -Before Stipendiary Wright at Al- berton two Prohibition cases, on in- formation of Inspector Doyle, came up for hearing Saturday. 'I‘he case a- gainst Andrew Graves, Alberton,was dismissed for want of evidence. The other against Mrs Lynch, Tignisb, was adjourned for one week owing to the absence of awitness. A. C. Saunders, Summerside, appeared for both the defendants. At the police Court in this city Saturday the case against E. Hurry, charged with disorderly conduct, was adjourned. The Charlottetown Club Case, or the prohibition case against Peter J, Doyle, the steward, was fur- ther adjourned for one week. Next Saturday judgment in this case is expected to be brought down. Henry Welsh was discharged on 8, drunk charge. Ed. Heunessey was fined five dollars for the same offence and for assault Joseph Bell was fined two dollars. _ Wnter Sinclair, son of Wm. Sin- clair, Hamilton, P. E. I., met with a sad death in Boston a few days ago. He was employed by the Boston Ice Company, and while delivering ice from a car, a large block of it fell, badly crushing his leg. He was at once removed to the hospital where the limb was amputated but he died under the operation. The body was brought to this Province. for inter- ment on Wednesday, the funeral tak- ing place on Thursday, from the home of_hls father, a large number of friends attending. . On their return they will reside on Twelfth ave. -On Wednesday night last the store of Morris & Fyie, Stanley Bridge, was broken into and a quantity of goods stolen. On Friday officers Phil- lips of Summerslde and Constable Mosse of Kensington were given the facts of the case and had been working quietly on the case up to yesterday when the arrest was made of George Fowler of Summerside and- Charles Dobson of Picton, who were brought to Summerside and lodged in jail, The day following the robbery three susbicious looking characters were secn on the road near Margate. A resident of that place in conversation with one of them who gave 'his name as Loder and informed him that the three of them belonged to Miscouche. Constable Moasa, upon ihearing of this, at once got into telephone com- munication wlth officer Phillips who after considerable difficulty, yesterday located the ,three men answering the description. Constable Moasu at once came to Summerside and on arrivinv here found that the suspects had a- gain left town, going in the direction of the North Shore. Accompanied by Ofncer Phillips, he at once gave chase and succeeded in. capturing -two of them, the third, also nafned Loder, escaping them although he was seen with the other two shortly before the officers arrived. THURSDAY _ -'1‘lie Summersidc Toun Council on Monday last sold the town team to J. J. Ritchie, Newcastle, N. B., for the sum of $440. The price was a satisfactory one and the team are well worth it. -At a meeting ofthe Baptist con- gregation, Summerside, held a few evenings ago, an unanimous invita- tion to become pastor of this con- gregation was extended to Rev. L. O. Morse, of Westport, N. S., who preached most acceptably to this congregation on Sunday last. , Mr. Morse, before accepting the invita- tion asked for time to confer with his congregation before giving them his answer. David Schurman, City, for many years general agent in this province, for the Massey-Harris Company, has retired from the road, to take charge of the Company’s office in Charlottetown. Mr Schurman has been with the Company, ever since its organization, nineteen years ago, and has done excellent work. He will he succeeded by C. H. Nelson another provincialist, who has m-ade his mark with the same company. -On Sunday night last the cellar in the residence of John Chappell, Lock’s Shore, was broken into and a quantity of meat and other articles taken. The three prisoners now in jail awaiting- trial for breaking into shores at Stanley Bridge are suspect- ed of also commisting this robbery, as they were seen in this vicinity on Sunday an-d were arrested not far from this residence on Monday. In connection with these burglaries the crown officers and constable Moase of Kensington have been busy the last few days gathering evidence and some startling information will like- ly be brought out at the aidjourned hearing which takes place tomorrow. .The weakly meeting of the P. Tiiere passed peacefully to rest on Sabbath, Sept 18, 1910, one of the oldest and most beloved residents of Springton in the person of Mary l\'la.cSwain, reiict of the late Angus Nicholson. The deceased was born in the Isle of Skye, Scotland, eighty three years ago. She was a very intelligent woman and her quiet and gentle manner made her beloved by all who came in contact with her. She lived a life pure and good in trying always to help others.
