In The Guardian’s report of the race it was incorrectly stated that the Imperial I was just completing the first lap when the other boats were finishing the fourth and final lap. This should have been made to read, "the third lap" instead of the first. At the Y. M. C. A. Bowling Alleys yesterday the Tigers, a team com- posed of H. Acorn, T. Moore, C. Baer, F. Moore and H. Stanley, were beaten by the Royals who challenged them, the last named team being L., Newson, A. McKinnon, G. Haszard, H. Whitlock and F. Lane. The Royals ran up a score of 695 to the Tiger's 550, H. Whitlock and G. Haszard of the Royals made the highest indivi- dual scores these being 167 and 150 respectively. A return match will be played Friday night. Sir Louis and Lady Davies, Miss Mary Davies, Mrs. J. D. Hyndman and family leave the city this morn- ing for Edmonton where Mrs. Hynd- man has her home, .and where Dan- iel and Thomas Davies, brother and son, respectively, of Sir Louis, are engaged in business. Miss Davies and Miss Hyndman, who are also leav- ing, will proceed to Ottawa to open up their residence, which has been closed during the summer. Sir Louis will return to Ottawa the first of October for the opening of the Su- preme Court of Canada. The lending article in the Canadian Magazine for September is entitled Naplo~eon's Burial and Exhumation. It takes the form of some remliniscenl- ces of 3 gentlemen who was born in Saint Helena and who witnessed both ceremonies, and is edited by Dr. A. H. U; Colquhoun, Deputy Miinist~r of Education for Ontario. The article is well illustrated. Another well illustr- ated contributlon is Saint John, the City of Loyalis-ts, by Emily P. Weav- er. Another of those interesting his- tories of some oi our famous mining camps is told by Harold Sands in 5 well illustrated article entitled Bon- anzas of the Slocan. Earnest McGaf- fey contributes an entertaining- ac- count of The Red Men of Vancouver Island. The stories in this issue are also of a high order. In the window of the McKinnon Drug. Go. there is on display aRoss match rifle, fitted with the new im- proved Ross bridge lor attaching the peep sight/ 'This rifle was specially imported by the agent of the Ross Rifle Co. In a practice shoot at 500 yards it made an almost perfect diagram of shots. the extreme dis- tance between _the high and low shots being only three inches. The finish of the rifle is most beautiful, the stock being of dark Circassian walnut highly polished. The barrel is of the finest American steel, gsuged to .302 oi an inch, this gauge being slightly smaller than the regular, permits greater accuracy and is more lasting. The pull of the trigger has been nicely adjusted to tive rounds. The ritle has been specially assem- bled by the Ross Ride expert meclvl anic, Ernest Evans, and shot and sighted by the company's expert marksman, Sgt. A. McMillan. The rifle will he given as first prize in the open shoot Labor Day morning. Ari entrance fee to cover the expen- ses ,of the match, prizes, etc., will be fixed. It is hoped that this in- ducement wlll bring a large number of rifiamen together so that a/good morning's sport will be assured. : :The plan for the play in the Opera, House on the evening of Sept. 5th opens th-at morning at the regular places. Worth took place yesterday afternoon from the home of the deceased to the Peoples’ Cemetery where inter- ment was made. There was a large attendance of mourners and friends who followed the remains to their last resting place. The Citizen’s Band attended in a body as mourners and the Fourth Regiment Band were in the procession. The floral tributes were very many adding to the many evidences of sympathy 1-or the bere- aved lamily. The Rev. 'I‘. W.
