PURDY Many old time citizens heard with regret of the passing of Mrs. E.,F'. Puldy at Victoria. P. E I., on 31st ultimo. She nos Emma YBBILIIOIBIHBW. daughter of the late John and Maria Hobbs and was born at Mergaie, P E. I. on Feb- ruary 24th. 1845. She moved with her parents in early childhood to Charlottetown. where in 1862 she maried Mr. E. F Purdy, monu- mental mason. Of eight children four survive, namely, E. I. in California, Dr. A. L. in Alocrton. P. E. I., G. G. in St'..hroy, Ontario and Mrs. E R CZIJIICLUII of Victoria, P E. I., with whom iifizéeased made her home since Nephews of the deceased are Mr. Benjamin Simpson and Mr. G. F‘. Hutcheson, Charlottetown, and Mr. W. H. Slackford, Summer- side. Mrs. Purdy ‘was a devout Cl-iris- tian, and for many. many years a member of the first Methodist Church in Charlottetown. Although nearing her ninety-sixth year Mrs. Purdy was abie to be up and n- boui. the house until a week before her death and no anxiety was felt regarding her health until wiihin the last two days. About ten days before her death she had a visit from her pastor, the Rev. D. J. Morrison, and enjoyed singing with him the hymn, "Blessed Assur- ance " At her funeral on 'I'hurs- day this hymn was sung together with “Hock of Ages" and "Jesus. Lover of My Soul." The Rev, Mr. Morrison in a short address at the funeral service based his remarks on the last verse of the 23rd Psam. Interment was the Peoples Cemetery, where the Rev Mr. Murray oi’ Trinity Church conduct- ed the service at the grave. The death occurred in St. Boni- |face Hospital.
