It is proposed to erect city buildings in Winnipeg at a cost of $80,000. A public hail to seat 1,200 people and 40 rooms for civic oftices, will be pro- vided. Reports regarding the condition of the crops from the east and south tor thirty miles around Winnipeg are highly favorable. it is stated that they wever looked better than at present, and that with a feir amountot rain the harvest this year will be the most abundant that Maniteba has known for a namber of years past. It is intended to lay ten miles of track on the Canada Pacific to equal the re- cord of the Central Pacific, which, how- ever is not as good a performance as the laying of six miles on the Canadian Pacific, because extensive preparations had been made to accomplish the feat on the Central Pacific, iron being laid at every point in advance. Rev. Mr. Jukes, who has just re- turned from the Beautiful Plains dis- trict, reports having seen two bears last week, -One was a‘cinnamon, about the size ot a Newfoundland dog, and the other black and much larger—probably the size of a full-grown ox. Several yarties report having seen bears on the Beautiful Plains, and a number of attempts have been made fo shoot them but so far without success. The man Stephenson, who was arrested for disclosing facts connected with the McCarthy murder, part of whieh were read from) «@ pack of cards, has been brought to Regina, This man deseribes how the crime was committed aod informs the officers where certaio articles belonging to the old man can be found; he also tells the last words witered by McCarthy, and how forcibly the first blows took effect. Beyond a doubt, if not the perpetrator of the ter- rible deedhe was present when it was being executed. General Superintendent Egan, of the Canada Pacific, says that shortly after leaving Calgary, rock-cutting in the foot-hills will commence, and it is believed-that a half-mile tunnel will have to be bored ere reaching the summit. The tracklayers expeet to reach Calgary the 10th of August, if notearlier. Telegraphic construetion also keeps abreast of the tracklaying. Mr. Egan describes the country where iracklaying is now going on asa fine rolling prairie, and from it the first view of the Rockies is had. The crops everywhere look well, and with some rain just now an unusually abundant harvest may be looked for. eS fhe Great French Remedy, Dr. LeDuce’s Periodical Pills. He has deen a great sufferer from Serof- ula, and the inclosed letter will tell you what a marvelous elect Ayer's Sarsaparilla bas had in his case. I think his blood must have contained the humor for at least ten years; but it did not show, except in the form of ascrofulous sore on the wrist, until about five years ago. From » few spots which ap- peared at that time, it gradually epread so as to cover his entire body. J assure you he was terribly afflicted, and an object of pity, when he began using your medicine. Now, there are few men of his age who enjoy as good health as he has. I could easily name fifty persons who would testify to the facts in his case. Yours truly, W. M. PHILLIPS.” “Jt is botha FROM THE FATHER: picactce ana a duty for ma to state to you the benefit I have derived from the use of Ayers Sarsaparilla. Six mouths ago 1 was completely covered with a terrible humor and scrofulous sores. The humor caused an incessant and intolerable itching, and the skin cracked so as to cause the blood to flow in many places whenever I moved. My sniferings were great, and my life a burden. 1 commenced the use of the SsRSAPARILLA in April last, and have used. it regularly siuce that time. My condition began to improve at once. The sores havo all healed, and I feel perfectly well in every respect — being now able to do a good day’s work, although 73 years of age. Many inquire what has wronght such 2 cure in my case, and I tell them, as I have here tried to tell you, AYER’S SARSAPARILLA. Glover, Vt., Oet. 21, 1882.
