Judge Taschereau gave judgment to-day in the case of R. A and J, Stewart, wood merchants, of St. John, N. B. The action was for half a million dollars, against the Bank of British North America, on the ground that the Bank had refused to honor a couple of the said firm's checks at its St. John Branch. The Bank met the action by a plea that the court here had no jurisdic- tion, as the case of action did not originate in the limits of the Province of Quebec, as the action had been served upon Mr. Grindley in Montreal.
