New Decline In i TB Death Bale o'1'rAWA (CP)- The Canadian tuberculosis Association announced Tugsday that fewer persons died of tuberculosis in Canada in 1953 than at any time in history. 13:. G. J. Wherrett, executive secretary of the association, said in a statement tuberculosis killed 1,510 persons last year, represent- mg a death rate of 12.3 per 100,000 of population. This was a drop at :5 per cent iron: the 1952 total of 2,457 and a rate of 17.1. both of which also were record lows. ”However,” he said, "While re- joicing at this remarkable decline in tuberculosis mortality, we should not lose sight or the fact that here were 10,545 new cases of tubercu- losis discovered in Canada in 1953. we still have not beaten the dis- case although we have reduced its mung potential."
