The British cruiser Duke of Edin-
burgh went ashore on Saturday in a
dense fog on the rocky ledge off
Cowes.
She sent out wireless messages for
assistances which was despatched the
same hour. ' _
The cruiser is in a very dangerous
position.
She carries a crew of 750 who .re-
_‘ mained on board and it is hoped the
cruiser will bc towed od the rocks at
full tide.
