SO CC Lt se tell tty To the Fadito, of the Examiner. Mr. Eprror,—Can you inform me, under what law or authority, the Land Commis- sioners have purchased Col. Cumberland « interest in what is known as the « Fort Lot,” Warren l'arm, or Ringwood ? In my simplicity lieve, that the object of, and the authority given by, the Lond Purchase Act, 1875, was Fee of which is already vested in the Gov- | ernment For the information of the Commissioners, | and in order that the general public may | understand the question, I subjoin the fol- | lowing particulars:—In the year 1799, the then Lieut. Governor Fanning, received a despatch from the Duke of Portland, Secre- tary of State, directing Governor Fanning to execute a lease, fo continue during His Majesty's pleasure, of a tract of land then known as the Fort Lot, being the site of the French Capital of the Island, consisting of 520 acres, unto Charles Alexander DeCo- lonne, late Minister of State in the King- dom of France, but then resident in London- (The Abbe DeColonne, brother of the above, was then living on the Island, and his remiins are now interred in the Char- lottetown Cemetery.) The conditions of this lease are the payment of an annual rent, beginning at 3 pence per acre, and after twelve years to be one shilling sterling, rev serving to ¥lis Majesty also “all such part of the said lot as hath or have been already set apart, or that shall or may herealter be set apart for fortifications, wharves, or high- ways.’’ The tenant also covenented to “keep in repairs the houses and buildings on the premises, and to erect and build a suf, ficient Barrack, for the use of His Majesty's troops, stationed to guard the battery. Provided always, His Majesty shall be at liberty, with or without previous notice, to resume possession of any part of the said tract, as shall be judged to be necessary or expedient for works of defence, or for any other public purpose, allowing an abate. ment therefor of a proportionate deduction of the rent, reserved for so many acres as shall be resumed for the purpose aforesaid.” In the year 1807, Governor Fanning. who, it is said, always had a remarkably acute scent for hunting out a good bargain in land, purchased the lease of this prop 2rty— which, having been the Capital of the Island during the French occupation, had an ex- tensive clearance, and was doubtless, one | of the most valuable farms in the Col- /ony—from a James Ladislas Joseph De- , Colonne—a relation, it may be presumed, of designated as a clerk, and was residing at that time as an exile, in Middlesex, Eng- dred and fifty pounds, sterling, or five shill- ings and nine pence, sterling, per acre. As the means of correcting any error in the awards made by the Commissioners’ are provided for in the 45th section of the Land Purchase Act, 1875, it is to be hoped that the Government will, within the thirty days limited by the Act, take such steps as will protect the public interests involved. ROBABLY there are few circumstances under which * physician labors with more real sympathy for his patient than when called upon to administer relief to an acute sufferer with Chrovic Rheumatism. Italso regulates the bowels, which is very essential iv this complaint, and no one will read the follow- ing statement, froma well-known Dartmouth gentleman, with more interest and pleasure than those physicians who have a real desire to benefit their euffering patients - Danrmovtn, Sept. 14, 1874. Forsytu & Co., Gentlemen :—For the two past years I have been severely troubled with Rheumatism. I have suffered the most acute pain, and at times I have been rendered perfectly helpless—being unable to walk, sleep or even sit up. I have tried many pyrene and used numerous patent medicines, ut I still continued to. grow worse. It is now about four days since I commenced taking the DIAMOND RHEUMATIC CURE, and the pain has all left me, and the use of my limbs is rapid- ly returning. I bless the day that the Diamond Rheumatic Cure was called to my attention, Gratefully yours, Wa. BRODIE FURTHER PROOF. Hatirax, Sept, 19, 1874. Forsytn & Co., Gentlemen :—I wish to make known to all sufferers from Rheumatism in Halifax, thas I, the undersigned, suffered the most terrible pains possible toimagine, for two years past. I have tried several physicians in this city, aud paid them mostof my means for prescriptions, but all of no avail. Ihave now taken the DIAMOND RHEUMATIC CURE for a week past, and I can truthfully say that it has done me more good thanfanything I have ever taken. I cordially recommend it to all afflicted humanity, Traly yours. ALAM HANNIGAN, Lower Water Street. The proprietor of this has walked the aisles of the hospitals of London, Eng, for the past twenty years, making Rheumatism a speciality and the prescriptions from which the remedy is compounded is all he ever used in the treatment of this disease. Tn simple cases sometimes one cr two does suffice. In the most chronic cases it is sure to give way by the use of three or four bottles. B this efficient and simple remedy hundreds of dol- lars are saved by those who can least afford to throw it away, as surely it is by the purchase ot useless prescriptions. This medicine is prepared by a careful experi- enced and conscientious physician, in obedience to the desire of numberless friends in the profes- Every bottle is warranted to contain the full strengt of the Medicine in its highest state of purity aud development and is superior to any medicine ever compounded for this terrible complaint.
