Recently, UPEI received permission to obtain a bank loan to renovate Memdrial. The government, through the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Committee, will pay the loan back over the next few years. The cost will be in the area of 1.1 million. The renovation has been long expected and eagerly anticipated by many people — most notably the / Education Department. It, and the Math and Psychology Departments will be the new occupants of Memorial, The Psychology Lab will be in Memorial as well. ’ Although all the offices of these departments will be housed there. only some classes are to be built into the building. UPEI, according to the MPHEC, has ample claSSroom space and therefore is not allowed to build more. ' The project is to‘be finished for the '79—'80 academic year. With its completion, the old Education building will be removed as well as N and NA. Nothing is yet planned for the old Psych lab. The new Memorial Hall will include a new wing of about AOOO sq. ft.
